Wood Pellet Storage Silos
Wood pellet storage silos keep bulk pellets dry, clean, and free-flowing from delivery to draw-off. Pellets are sensitive to moisture and easily damaged, so the store has to protect their quality as well as hold volume. Franklin Hodge builds galvanised Brice-Baker silos for wood pellet storage on biomass, agricultural, and commercial sites worldwide.
Why Wood Pellets Need the Right Storage
Wood pellets are compact, high-energy fuel, but only if they stay dry. Damp pellets swell, crumble into dust, and lose calorific value, which means wasted fuel and blocked handling equipment. Good storage controls moisture keeps fines to a minimum and lets pellets flow cleanly when you need them. Get it wrong and you pay twice, once for the spoiled fuel and again for the downtime it causes.
Brice-Baker Silos for Wood Pellet Storage
Brice-Baker silos are built from galvanised steel with shallow corrugation, so the internal walls stay smooth, and pellets discharge cleanly without hanging up. Full galvanising and sealed, site-assembled construction protects the contents from water ingress. Two configurations suit pellet storage.
Flat-Bottom Silos: Flat-bottom silos give you high-capacity, long-term storage, with working volumes up to 11,888m³ for large pellet stocks. A strong conical roof and external stiffener columns carry the load, and diameters run from 3 to 25 metres, so the same design scales from a single boiler feed to a full production store.
Hopper-Bottom Silos: Hopper-bottom silos use custom discharge angles for fast, complete gravity emptying, which suits free-flowing pellets and quick turnaround. Available from 3 to 12 metres in diameter and fully galvanised for water protection, they work well where you load and draw off pellets regularly rather than holding them for months.
Built to Last, Backed by Inspection
Every silo is manufactured to BS EN 1090-1, the standard for structural steelwork, and fully galvanised for a long service life outdoors. Because Franklin Hodge is the only manufacturer of Brice-Baker silos, the same team supports them after installation. Our silo inspection service uses drones to check hard-to-reach areas safely and silo refurbishment restores older units rather than replacing them. That mix of build quality and aftercare keeps a silo working for decades.
Handling Wood Pellets on Biomass and Commercial Sites
Pellet stores rarely work alone. We can add mechanised loading and unloading, conveyors, and augers to move pellets in and out efficiently, plus custom ladders and gantries for safe access. That makes Brice-Baker silos a fit for pellet producers, fuel distributors, biomass heat and power plants, and farms running their own boilers. Whatever the throughput, each silo is built to order and matched to your site, so it fits the space and the way you work.
