Water Tanks for Power Stations
Power stations move enormous volumes of water, and none of it can be left to chance. You need reliable storage for cooling, process supply and fire protection, engineered for a site where downtime is expensive, and safety is critical. Franklin Hodge designs and builds power station water tanks and water storage across the UK and internationally, sized to your plant and built to perform for decades.
Why Power Stations Rely on Large-Scale Water Storage
Power generation depends on water at every stage. Cooling systems need a steady make-up supply, process and raw water to keep the plant running, and fire protection must be ready at the moment it is called on. Losing any of these is a threat to output and to safety, so dedicated on-site storage gives operators a controlled reserve that does not depend on the mains alone. Thermal, biomass and combined-cycle plants all work to the same principle: enough water, held securely, ready for the load.
Cooling and Process Water Storage for Power Stations
Cooling is where power stations use the most water, and evaporative systems lose it constantly. Our tanks store the cooling and process water your plant gets through, feeding make-up supply steadily through peak generation. We build process water tanks to match unusual duty, water quality, or treatment needs, so the store fits the way your plant runs rather than a standard specification. Single or multiple tanks can be arranged to match the demand profile of the site. Franklin Hodge tanks are ideal for storing de-ionised/demineralised water. Often this type of water is stored in stainless steel tanks. The alternative of using a Franklin Hodge tank offers a significant saving.
Fire Protection Water Tanks for Power Generation
Fire protection at a power station is non-negotiable, and insurers expect stored water that meets recognised standards. Our fire protection tanks act as pump suction tanks for sprinkler, hydrant and general firefighting systems, and they hold LPCB and FM Global approval. We can place the required volume where the plant needs it, protecting turbine halls, transformers, and the wider site through every operating condition.
Seismic-Engineered Tanks for Critical Energy Sites
Many energy sites sit in demanding locations, and some in seismic zones where an ordinary tank is a risk. Our cylindrical Firestore® and Liquistore® ranges can be engineered for seismic conditions, in hot-dip galvanised steel or marine-grade aluminium and designed to Factory Mutual or AWWA seismic requirements on request. The tank is matched to the ground it stands on, so critical water supply stays contained when it matters most.
Built for the Long Term on Demanding Sites
Every tank is built for the long service life a power station demands. We manufacture hot-dip galvanised steel with a 300gms zinc coating per side, marine-grade aluminium for corrosive or coastal settings, and glass-coated steel for tougher stored liquids. Tanks are site assembled from bolted panels, so we can install within a live plant and around existing infrastructure without a lengthy shutdown. This is storage you can rely on for the full working life of the plant.
