Water Tanks for Data Centres
Data centres cannot pause, and the water systems that keep them running cannot either. You need reliable storage for cooling, fire protection and back-up supply, sized to a facility that operates every hour of the year. Franklin Hodge designs and builds water tanks for data centres across the UK and internationally, engineered around your heat load, fire strategy and site constraints.
Why Data Centres Rely on Dedicated Water Storage
A data centre cooling failure is a service-level event with financial impact within minutes. Cooling runs continuously; fire systems must always be ready, and any interruption to supply carries real risk. Dedicated on-site storage gives you a buffer against mains variability and the resilience these facilities demand. It also keeps cooling and fire protection independent, so neither system competes with the other for volume when it matters most. Hyperscale, colocation, enterprise and edge sites all rely on the same principle: stored water close to the load, ready when the facility calls for it.
Cooling Tower Make-Up Water Storage for Data Centres
Evaporative cooling loses water constantly, so your towers need a dependable make-up supply. Our tanks store cooling and process water in the volumes high-density, and AI halls consume, feeding the loop steadily through peak load. Single tanks suit compact plant rooms, while larger multi-tank arrangements match the heat profiles of megawatt-scale halls. They pair naturally with our cooling towers for data centres, so tank and tower come from one engineering team that sizes both to the same heat rejection brief.
Fire Protection Water Tanks for Data Centre Facilities
Fire protection is non-negotiable in a data centre, and insurers expect stored water that meets recognised standards. Our fire protection tanks act as pump suction tanks for sprinkler and hydrant systems, and they are LPCB and FM Global approved. Our cylindrical Firestore® tank provides a cost–effective and long-life solution for outdoor sites. For constrained sites and indoor plant rooms, our rectangular Firetainer® option is ideal, as it can be designed to fit into tight and irregular footprints where a standard tank simply will not go.
Choosing the Right Data Centre Water Tank Material
The right build depends on the water, duty, and the environment. We manufacture using high-grade hot-dip galvanised steel with a 300gms zinc coating per side, a marine-grade aluminium for weight-sensitive or corrosive settings, and glass-coated steel for tougher stored liquids. Tanks are site assembled from bolted panels, so we can install where access is limited and for our galvanised and aluminium options, internal butyl liners keep the stored water contained and clean. Every option is built for the long service life a critical facility needs, with corrosion resistance that protects your investment for decades.
Sizing Your Data Centre Water Storage
How much you store depends on cooling load, fire strategy, mains resilience and how long you need to run independently. Our engineers size each tank to your facility rather than a standard catalogue figure. You can get an early estimate with our tank capacity calculator, then talk it through with our team to confirm the specification against your redundancy targets.
