The History of Visco Cooling Towers: Now Part of Carter Environmental

Visco Cooling Towers was once a leading go-to industry name for cooling towers and their parts and was responsible for producing towers of exceptional quality and versatility.

However, in 2003, Visco Cooling Towers was sold to Carter Environmental – with the latter soaking up not just the brand name but the Visco product range, assets, and goodwill between the brand and its customers.

While this merge happened back in 2003, customers familiar with the Visco Cooling Towers brand and name are continuing to search for ‘Visco’ even to this day – which is why we thought it was time we shared a deep dive into the history and what led to Visco becoming a core part of Carter Environmental.

The Legacy of Visco Cooling Towers

Over a period of 60 years, to the year of the merger in 2003, Visco Cooling Towers designed and manufactured its own specific range of towers.

The Visco 400 and Visco 800 Series of cooling tower were very popular, and many units are still in service today. Visco was also responsible for creating solutions for more challenging spaces, including those sites and locations with a very limited footprint for their cooling tower.

Visco also produced solutions including the ‘Super’ cooling tower and the ‘Open Type’ cooler – both of which explored different materials and structures to complement smaller spaces.

The diversity of these solutions, combined with the excellent level of customer services afforded to commercial clients and industrial applications by the Visco team, made this an important legacy to continue.

With that said then, and with it being 22 years since the merger, where is Carter Environmental now, and how has the acquisition of Visco Cooling Towers changed their trajectory?

Transition to Carter Environmental: Where They Are Now

The acquisition of Visco Cooling Towers meant that Carter Environmental, with Franklin Hodge at the helm under another merger, was able to manufacture and supply both the towers themselves and the parts required to keep them in optimum working order.

Since 2003, Franklin Hodge has continued to thrive and adopt increasingly innovative ideas, from the rollout of extremely low noise and vibration solutions to ‘flat pack’ designs for retrofit replacement scenarios and efficient closed-circuit solutions.

What Does the Merge Mean for Customers?

With regards to the changes for customers, there are very few to speak of – aside from an increase in the availability of cooling towers from the blend of different brands and industry experts.

By combining the industry prowess of Visco Cooling Towers with Carter Environmental, and then Franklin Hodge, quality and performance are matched only by environmental sustainability and the use of fully recyclable materials.

Customers enjoy better value and a great variety of cooling tower solutions to choose from, all of which can be supplied and maintained by the same umbrella brand.
