Tank rubber linings are a critical tool for protecting tanks from corrosion, abrasion and chemical exposure.
At Franklin Hodge, we can supply, fit and maintain quality rubber tank linings to extend the lifespan of commercial and industrial water tanks. Our tank rubber linings offer long-lasting protection, ensuring the structural integrity of your tank.
What Is a Tank Rubber Lining?
A tank rubber lining is a specialist rubber coating that sits on the interior surface of a tank. This lining creates a protective barrier between the tank and the liquid it is storing. This helps prevent corrosion, erosion and chemical damage. It also prevents the liquid from becoming contaminated by the tank.
Rubber is commonly used in tanks that store aggressive chemicals, wastewater and potable water. The linings are suitable for steel, concrete and other tank materials, meaning they can offer versatile protection across a range of industries.
About Franklin Hodge Water Tank Linings
We supply tank liners made from butyl rubber, which is a flexible, synthetic material. Our water tank liners are:
- WRAS drinking water approved: Our tank liners are suitable to use with stored, potable water. Our linings have been tested to BS6920 standards, and they are approved under the UK Water Regulations Advisory Scheme.
- Impermeable: Butyl rubber creates a completely waterproof seal, and thanks to its closely packed molecular structure, it is extremely resistant to the transmission of liquids and vapour
- Weather resistance: Butyl rubber does not contain any pesticides or additives that might leach or evaporate over time. Rubber offers brilliant weather resistance, maintaining its strength and elasticity over several years. Even with exposure to sunlight or UV, our rubber liners will maintain their integrity.
- Elasticity: The water-retaining properties of butyl rubber will not be affected even if the water tank lining is stretched to 3x its normal size.
- Durability: Rubber linings are resistant to wear and tear, flexing, cracking and puncturing. Polyester matting underlay will also be installed between the tank shell and liner, for extra protection against puncturing.
Rubber Tank Lining Repairs
In the unlikely event that your rubber tank lining is punctured, we can easily repair it with a non-invasive heat/pressure process. This can be carried out by our technicians onsite. The repair process does not affect the overall integrity of the liner, so it will extend the lifespan of your liner for years to come.
For overseas or remote tanks, we also offer tailor-made ‘cold repair kits’.

FAQs
What types of tanks can be lined with rubber?
Rubber linings can be used with steel, concrete and fibreglass tanks. They are commonly used in tanks that store chemicals, wastewater, slurries, potable water and other potentially corrosive materials.
How long does a rubber lining last?
The lifespan of a rubber lining depends on the material stored in the tank, the frequency of use and environmental conditions. With proper maintenance, a quality tank liner can last anywhere from 5-20 years.
