Tank Lining

Tank lining is a vital process for preserving and enhancing the life of your water storage system. At Franklin Hodge, we offer expert water tank lining services to refurbish existing vessels, ensuring they remain in optimal condition for years to come.

What is Tank Lining and Why Is It Important for Your Business?

Tank lining is the process of applying a protective coating to the interior of a tank to prevent corrosion, protect the tank’s structure, and maintain the quality of the stored contents. For businesses that rely on water storage, whether for fire protection, potable water, or industrial use, tank linings are essential for ensuring the integrity of the tank and the safety of the water inside.

Over time, water tanks may deteriorate due to chemical erosion, corrosion, or the natural wear caused by age. Tank lining serves as a safeguard, significantly extending the life of the tank and avoiding the costly disruption of a full tank replacement.

Why Does Your Business Need Tank Lining?

If your water tank is showing signs of damage, wear, or contamination, it’s time to consider tank lining services. Without an effective lining, tanks can become prone to structural damage, leaks, and the contamination of the water stored inside. Tank linings are particularly important for industries where water quality is critical, such as in fire protection systems or in tanks storing potable water.

A good quality tank lining prevents corrosion, reduces maintenance costs, and ensures that your tank meets the necessary regulatory standards. In many cases, applying a tank lining is a more affordable and practical solution than replacing the entire tank, as it restores the vessel’s structural integrity without the need for expensive and disruptive tank replacement.

What Materials Are Used for Tank Lining?

At Franklin Hodge, we offer bespoke tank lining services using high-quality, flexible synthetic membranes tailored to your specific needs. Our tank linings are made from materials such as butyl rubber, EPDM, and PVC, each carefully selected for their durability, elasticity, and suitability for water storage tanks.

  • Butyl Rubber: Ideal for potable water tanks, this material is safe for use with drinking water and has been tested to meet UK Water Regulations Advisory Scheme standards.
  • EPDM: Highly flexible and resistant to extreme temperatures, EPDM provides excellent durability in outdoor environments.
  • PVC: A versatile and cost-effective material suitable for a variety of tank lining applications, ensuring long-lasting protection.

FAQs

What is a tank lining?

A tank lining is a protective coating that is installed inside the tank, to prevent corrosion, to keep the contents uncontaminated and to protect the structure of the tank. The linings are made from specialist materials that are safe for use with drinking water.

What materials do you use for water tank lining?

If your tank stores potable or drinking water, we offer a special butyl rubber lining which is approved in line with the UK Water Regulations Advisory Scheme.

Our linings are:

  • Impermeable: These materials provide a completely watertight seal, with a strong resistance to liquid or vapour penetration due to their dense molecular structure.
  • Weather resistant: All of the materials that we use for our tank liners have undergone rigorous testing, in accordance with various UK and international standards. They also maintain outstanding durability, even under prolonged exposure to sunlight, radiation, and extreme cold.
  • Elastic: In the case of our liners manufactured from butyl rubber and EPDM, these will stretch to 300% of their original size, before losing water retaining properties.
  • Durable: Both materials offer superior resistance to wear, tear, cracking and puncturing.

Is Tank Lining Better Than Replacing the Tank?
Tank lining offers a practical and efficient solution to extend the life of your water storage system without the need for a complete tank replacement.
