Design and Installation of a Glass-Coated Tank with GRP Roof – Norbord Europe, Stirling

Introduction

Faced with an urgent requirement for a new glass-coated water storage tank, the client sought a solution that could be delivered swiftly and effectively, even amidst the harsh winter conditions of Stirling.

Client Background

The client required a high-capacity water storage solution to support its operations. Their storage needs called for a durable, efficient glass-coated tank capable of withstanding environmental challenges.

Challenges

Although the project was technically straightforward, the winter build posed significant difficulties. Freezing temperatures, high winds, and snow created a challenging environment for the installation team, testing their resilience and planning.

Franklin Hodge Solution

Franklin Hodge provided a 10.25m diameter x 10.47m high glass-coated tank equipped with a GRP roof. The tank was constructed on a purpose-built base, which was prepared in advance to facilitate the installation. Despite the extreme weather, the installation process was carried out methodically, ensuring safety and precision.

Key features of the solution included:

  • A robust glass-coated structure designed for durability.
  • A GRP roof to protect the tank’s contents from external elements.
  • Tailored construction techniques to adapt to the site conditions.

Results

The project was completed with two days to spare, demonstrating Franklin Hodge’s commitment to meeting tight deadlines. Despite adverse weather conditions, the tank was successfully installed and commissioned, delivering:

  • Increased water storage capacity to support the client’s operations.
  • A durable and efficient solution tailored to the client’s needs.
  • On-time delivery, exceeding client expectations.

Challenges Overcome

  • Adverse weather: The team braved freezing temperatures, snow, and high winds, employing advanced planning and adaptive strategies to maintain progress.
  • Urgent timeline: Recognising the client’s urgency, Franklin Hodge prioritised the project, ensuring timely delivery without compromising quality.

Conclusion

This case study highlights Franklin Hodge’s ability to deliver robust, tailored solutions under challenging conditions. The successful completion of the Norbord Europe project underscores the company’s expertise in glass-coated tank installations and its commitment to client satisfaction.

Whether faced with environmental challenges or tight deadlines, Franklin Hodge provides reliable, efficient, and high-quality water storage solutions for a wide range of industries.
