Portable Water Tank Liners

Portable water tank liners are specialist liners that are designed to maintain the purity and safety of stored drinking water. The liners are installed within the tank, creating a protective barrier between the water and the tank’s material. The liner then safeguards against corrosion, contamination and potential leaks.

At Franklin Hodge, we supply quality, tailor-made liners in either butyl rubber or EPDM material. Both materials are flexible synthetic membranes, ideal for lining water tanks.

The Benefits of Potable Water Storage Tank Liners

Potable water tank liners are flexible membranes/coatings made from food-grade, non-toxic materials that are approved for use with drinking water. The liners are carefully designed to resist bacterial growth, chemical reactions and degradation. This ensures the water stays safe, pure and suitable for drinking. Tank liners for potable water can be used in a variety of tank types, including steel, concrete and fibreglass tanks.

Potable water storage tank liners:

  • Protect against corrosion: Especially valuable in metal tanks as the water can weaken the tank’s structure over time, causing the water to become contaminated with rust particles.
  • Prevent leaks: Just as the tank can contaminate the water, the water can weaken the tank. Over time this could lead to leaks, wasting potable water.
  • Ensure water quality: Potable water liners are made from materials that meet strict safety standards, ensuring the water is safe for use even if it has been stored for long periods.
  • Protect the tank: Liners are a cost-effective way to protect the integrity of the tank. Replacing the tank is incredibly expensive, but with a liner the lifespan of the tank will be extended, reducing the need for costly repairs.

Franklin Hodge Tank Potable Water Tank Liners

We supply water tank liners made from butyl rubber or EPDM materials, as these materials have excellent resistance to wear, tear, cracking and puncturing.

Our tank liners are WRAS drinking water approved, tested to BS6920 and approved under the UK Water Regulations Advisory Scheme. They provide a completely waterproof seal, thanks to their closely packed molecular structure which is resistant to the transmission of liquids or vapour.

Because butyl rubber and EPDM don’t contain plastics or additives that can evaporate, they are also incredibly weather-resistant. When exposed to sunlight and UV rays, they will maintain their strength and elasticity, staying unchanged for several years. Temperatures from -30°C to +120°C will not affect the integrity of the tank liners. The durability and water-retaining properties will not be impacted, even if the liner is stretched to 300% of its size.

And, in the unlikely event that the membrane does become damaged or punctured, it can be easily repaired by us with minimal business disruption. We can repair the liner onsite, using a heat/pressure process. This repair process does not affect the overall integrity of the liner, so you will still have plenty more years of use following repair.
