Oil Storage Tanks

Oil storage tanks are specialist vessels designed to safely contain crude oil, refined petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons. They are subject to strict regulatory requirements around containment, bunding, and environmental protection, and must be manufactured from materials and coatings rated specifically for hydrocarbon contact. Because of this, oil storage is an entirely separate engineering discipline from water storage, with its own certification standards and product requirements. 

Franklin Hodge specialises in sectional water storage tanks. Our products are engineered, lined, and certified for water-based applications, which is why oil and hydrocarbon storage falls outside our range. 

Can Oil Be Stored in Franklin Hodge Tanks? 

No, Franklin Hodge tanks are not suitable for storing oil or hydrocarbons. 

Our internal liners, sealing systems, and galvanised steel construction are selected and approved for water-based liquids. Introducing oil or hydrocarbons would compromise both the tank’s integrity and any relevant compliance certifications. For oil storage, you will need a supplier whose products are specifically designed and approved for that purpose.

Why are Franklin Hodge tanks not suitable for oil storage?  

Our tanks are designed and certified for water-based applications. The materials, internal liners, and sealing systems are not rated for oil or hydrocarbon storage, which requires different engineering standards and regulatory approvals. 

What liquids can be stored in Franklin Hodge tanks?  

Our tanks are suitable for potable water, fire protection water, waste and effluent streams, and certain process water applications. The Glass Coated Liquistore® is specifically designed for corrosive waste liquids including sewage and effluent. 

Can Franklin Hodge advise on storage for other liquids?

Does Franklin Hodge offer any tanks for aggressive or chemical liquids?  

Yes, our Glass Coated Liquistore® is built for chemical aggression resistance and is used for waste and effluent storage across agricultural, industrial, and municipal applications. It is not, however, suitable for oil or hydrocarbons.
